Eco Adventures and the home school community:
"My 10 year old son and I attended the open house before the grand opening of Eco Adventures in Millersville a year ago. I knew right away that this was a place I wanted my son to attend and I knew it would be wonderful for our family and for the home school community. The staff was willing to work with me and set up a home school class and from the very first adventure we were hooked!

Each class includes hands on animal experiences and this is the only place I have ever been that always seems to say yes in some fashion to the children — Yes, you can touch this way. Yes, we can do that. Yes, we can bring an animal out to look at and learn about. The atmosphere is relaxed and the children are always engaged and excited to learn. They cover so many topics and always in a way that is fascinating. My son enjoyed the program so much that he started working towards the Junior Assistant program and just this July, after 9 months of preparing, he passed the interview and reached his goal. This will be an excellent addition to his home school transcript and we hope to have a working/school relationship with Eco Adventures for many years to come."

Students will learn all about these amazing animals' unique adaptations, anatomy, locomotion, and way of life–all through hands on interactions with live snakes. After we observe these reptiles in motion,we can put our new knowledge to the test by using engineering skills to build our own contraptions to illustrate how snake anatomy works!

Charged Up Feb 17th 1-2:30pm $25

In this class, students will literally be getting charged up for nature! You'll be shocked to know that there are many animals in nature that use energy as a way of life. Electric eels, lightning bugs, glow worms, and many more utilize electricity to survive. Some of them use bioluminescence to communicate, while others use the electricity to defend themselves. Students will examine all of the ways that animals use this energy source in their lives and how exactly it all works. Then we will combine all of this new found knowledge together to create our own working lightning bugs!

Storm Chasers March 17th 1-2:30pm $25

When you live outdoors in nature, you really need to have a plan for dealing with extreme weather conditions. The most successful animals have found ways to adapt to these extremes! From a bearded dragon in the heat of the desert, to a penguin in the bone chilling cold, or a bird having to fly through hurricane winds. Students will explore these amazing survival strategies to see firsthand how they learn to live in all of these crazy weather patterns. After learning about the different weather extremes and meeting some of the animals that can survive in them, we will experiment in a weather-making lab where we create our own miniature storms in a jar.

Motion Madness Tues, March 7th $25

Animals have many marvelous means of movement! From slithering and rolling, to jumping and flying, these are quite a few ways to move around. Some types of animal locomotion have even inspired human technology, and even self defense techniques like martial arts. In this very active class, students will learn about different types of movement by moving along side of our live animal demonstrations. Who has a better jump, a tree frog or a kid? Can you walk like a gator, or slither like a snake? We will be testing human against animals and all answers will be revealed! Students will even get to participate in a lab where we build our own animal movement machine!
