NEWS FLASH!!! Eco Adventures has done the impossible!!! We've made STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), super exciting and…wait for it…..kid friendly!! That's right kid friendly, meaning that kids simply cannot get enough of what we're offering. Drawing upon Eco Adventures' unique resources, special talents, and keen minds, our education team has created a dynamic, kid approved, set of STEAM activities that get kids excited! We know…because we've already run them by young inquiring minds, and they gave us two thumbs up. We're proud to be offering our Kid Approved STEAM activities in an all new after school Program. And, as always, Eco Adventures will bring it all together with fun, inquiry based, hands on learning, in a dynamic and high tech fashion. In each class, kids can interact with animals, create experiments, test theories, formulate questions, utilize gear and gadgets, incorporate artwork, and even devise creations. This is Eco Adventures at its best…it's STEAM…and most importantly it's KID APPROVED! This is a session you simply cannot miss!
In this all new class, students will get to learn what actually makes a snake, a snake! Snakes might just look like a head attached to a long tail, but they are much, much more than that! Their engineering and body plan have made them into one of the most successful animals in the planet. Students will learn all about these amazing animals' unique adaptations, anatomy, locomotion, and way of life–all through hands on interactions with live snakes. After we observe these reptiles in motion,we can put our new knowledge to the test by using engineering skills to build our own contraptions to illustrate how snake anatomy works!
In this class, students will literally be getting charged up for nature! You'll be shocked to know that there are many animals in nature that use energy as a way of life. Electric eels, lightning bugs, glow worms, and many more utilize electricity to survive. Some of them use bioluminescence to communicate, while others use the electricity to defend themselves. Students will examine all of the ways that animals use this energy source in their lives and how exactly it all works. Then we will combine all of this new found knowledge together to create our own working lightning bugs!
When you live outdoors in nature, you really need to have a plan for dealing with extreme weather conditions. The most successful animals have found ways to adapt to these extremes! From a bearded dragon in the heat of the desert, to a penguin in the bone chilling cold, or a bird having to fly through hurricane winds. Students will explore these amazing survival strategies to see firsthand how they learn to live in all of these crazy weather patterns. After learning about the different weather extremes and meeting some of the animals that can survive in them, we will experiment in a weather-making lab where we create our own miniature storms in a jar.
Animals have many marvelous means of movement! From slithering and rolling, to jumping and flying, these are quite a few ways to move around. Some types of animal locomotion have even inspired human technology, and even self defense techniques like martial arts. In this very active class, students will learn about different types of movement by moving along side of our live animal demonstrations. Who has a better jump, a tree frog or a kid? Can you walk like a gator, or slither like a snake? We will be testing human against animals and all answers will be revealed! Students will even get to participate in a lab where we build our own animal movement machine!
